BCBA Recommendation: Gua Sha for Teens with Autism

Heyyy! BCBA Ruby here 💕

I’ve had this rose quartz Gua Sha board since 2019, and it’s become one of those little things I keep coming back to—especially when I’m thinking about ways to support kids with self-care routines. I know it’s not specifically marketed for individuals with autism, but just because something doesn’t say “autism” on it doesn’t mean it’s not a great fit for young teen girls and boys with autism. It’s so helpful!

The Gua Sha is a smooth stone used for gentle face massage (yep, it’s super “spa day”), but it’s also amazing for introducing routines like washing the face, applying lotion, or just taking a quiet moment to wind down.

If your child loves cool, smooth textures or needs help building a daily hygiene routine, this can be a fun, low-pressure place to start. You can model it, turn it into part of a visual schedule, or even let your child choose music or scents to make it feel like their own self-care time.

It’s simple, soothing, and gives kids ownership over taking care of their body—something that builds confidence, independence, and dignity.

Whether you use it after brushing teeth, before bed, or as a reward after a task, this tiny pink stone can go a long way in helping your child learn to feel good in their own skin.
