BCBA Must-Read: The Self-Reliant Entrepreneur
Heyyy, BCBA Ruby here 🌈
If you’re anything like me, balancing the fast-paced world of ABA can sometimes feel like you’re constantly running on autopilot. We give so much of ourselves every day—whether it's tracking data, guiding our team, or helping clients reach milestones—but how often do we pause to check in with ourselves?
That’s why I’m excited to share a simple habit that’s made a huge difference for me:
The Self-Reliant Entrepreneur by John Jantsch.
This book isn’t filled with strategies or business hacks (although I love those too!). It’s a daily read—366 short reflections that help me reconnect with my own values, mindset, and growth. And to be honest, it’s become an essential part of my morning routine.
Here’s the magic:
Every morning, I take just a few minutes to read one page. Each entry includes:
✨ A thought-provoking quote from classic literature (Emerson, Thoreau—deep stuff)
🧠 A reflection that challenges me to consider my own journey, and
✍️ A journal prompt that helps me explore my mindset and growth in ways I didn’t expect.
Just one page a day gives me the space to reflect—not on anyone else’s goals—but on my own growth, as both a clinician and a person. And tbh, it’s made me more grounded, more present, and more in tune with the “why” behind everything I do, whether it’s with my team, my clients, or myself.
For me, the reflections are like a small daily reset—something that allows me to step back from the hustle and ask: What’s really important right now?
It’s helped me develop a healthier mindset as a leader and has even shifted my approach to supervision and client care.
If you’re a clinician, supervisor, or entrepreneur in the ABA world (or if you’re planning to be), I really recommend giving it a try. It’s a gentle way to check in with yourself amidst the noise of the day-to-day. Plus, it’s a tool that can actually help you stay grounded and aligned with your purpose—something we all need in this field.

💬 Let me know if you’ve read it, or if you grab a copy! I’d love to hear what reflection or quote stood out to you.
With care and caffeination,
Ruby 💕
